I have been teaching Dentistry at Harvard for 30 years. That is how overdue this terrific book is. I have already given six copies to wonderful young people who hope to become dentists someday. Competition for the spaces in the freshman class are fierce. This book helps a young person decide if they really want to dedicate themselves to a dental education. If they do decide to become dentists, this book helps them present themselves as worthy applicants.
Really well put together book. I recently bought this one and the SDN admissions guide. Both has decent advice, but what makes this book stand out was how it gives feedback on a lot of very different personal statements so I could tell why an essay was good, what worked for it, and then compare my own draft to it. I used a book like this back when I was applying to college and I'm glad someone finally made this book for dental school.Two things I wish the book had: I wish it showed us the GPA and DAT scores of these people to give a better sense of how competitive their applications were. Also, maybe this is wishful thinking but it would be cool to see examples of mediocre and horrible essays to learn from too.
This book breaks down how to submit a complete, detailed, and strong application. The sample personal statements show you that you can take your personal statement in a creative direction and gives ideas how you can write a solid statement as well.
I love this book! It inspired me to start my very own club at my university. The information inside the book is very helpful to see where you can fill in the gaps to be more prepared for Dental Schools.
It's actually a really useful book for my application. I really regret not buying this earlier as the book helped me out with my personal statement writing and other application tips~ Stong Buy.

As a 2017 DDS grad with 2 years of Kaplan DAT tutoring/mentorship experience, I highly recommend every applicant to consult this book before, during, and after writing their personal statements. When I was applying as a non-traditional student in 2012, I begged to see successful essays from friends across medicine, pharmacy, optometry and dentistry, mainly because I couldn't get my hands on enough dental essays. As a Kaplan tutor, I did the same for my students and mentees -- assembling an array of successful essays to help them analyze which ones will stand out and for what reasons. In memory of those days where the road ahead was foggy and unlit, I really have to say that Helen has done all the predents a great favor -- you do not have to pay $799 for the one-on-one personal statement consulting service through Kaplan, and you do not have to beg to see someone's private essays.
