Interesting tips. As with any "how-to" book, some stuff should be taken with a grain of salt.

Found the exercises in the appendices more helpful in assessing what fields i will be a match for. The information is however what most other books will suggest.

I will admit to not reading the entire book, but I got through about half of it. I may skim the rest. It's very well written and definitely no-nonsense, but it's also not for everyone. The author comes at you from the assumption that you're looking for a corporate job or that you want to be a corporate executive or that you already have that kind of job. Considering that he's the CEO of Korn Ferry (had never heard of Korn Ferry when I picked this up), that makes sense, but it means that this book will not be applicable to everyone. I stopped reading it because I had trouble relating to it as I've never worked in the corporate world and I'm not necessarily looking for that kind of job.

There is no match to this book in regards to career management, specifically finding and landing a job.Comprehensive, practical and friendly to read, the book outlines sound advice that’s blended by science and art of the getting to the right job.A must read!

The book and what is in it is great; however, the problem is the book itself. The binding is bad, and I'm pretty sure it's like this for other users. I'm going to see if I can get a refund or another one. If you are a buyer, you may want to consider a digital download.

I very much enjoyed revisiting islands, music, and books I’ve had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with in person, and contemplating others I’d still like to visit and get to know better. (Now added to my Bucket List thanks to this book are Montserrat, Martinique, and Dominica.) ISLAND PEOPLE is a big book. Literally. Wanting to re-read chapters while traveling myself, I also have bought the Kindle edition. It’s that good.

Really interesting read. Happened upon this by chance.

Insightful, engaging "off-the-tourist-map" perspective of the people, culture, and history of the islands.

I picked this up expecting to get a first-hand account of Caribbean life. This is nothing more than a privileged American's account of travelling. He spends his entire Jamaica section talking about Bob Marley. The Cuban section was OK, but spent more time giving a history lesson of Cuba than actually talking about the people of Cuba. I expected more out of this. Disappointed.

Boring and Racist

This is a very fine book, among the best available about the Caribbean. It is not a travel guide, it is not a history but has aspects of both. Jelly-Schapiro loves the islands, and knows them well. The book is a sort of travelogue, with sizable chunks of history mixed in, and a good deal of what might be described as participant narration, about celebrations, conversations, trips and such that he and friends from the various places did together. The writing is excellent, opinionated, sometimes humorous, sometimes a bit preachy and sometimes passionate. He knows a great deal about music, and it got a bit technical in places when he describes the music and history of music in Cuba, Jamaica and elsewhere. The book has a useless map and no illustrations; more of both would strengthen it. There's also no index, making it hard to look for something you read.It starts in Jamaica, with a lot about Jamaican music and the Marley folks. I was amazed to learn that one small area produced Marcus Garvey, Harry Belafonte and Bob Marley. There's a good deal about politics. Then he moves on to Cuba, and these sections are wonderful. There's a lot about life in Cuba, Cuban music, the Castros, and politics, and explores the difficult subject of white and black Cubans. He plainly likes Cuba and Cubans. One thing I had not read of before; Cuba imported 800,000 slaves 1790-1867 but got 30,000 refugees from the Haitian revolution and embarked on a deliberate campaign to whiten Cuba by bringing over peasants from places lie Andalusia and Galicia.The next section is on Puerto Rico, including a lot of history that will not be familiar to most Americans. The Spanish authorities also tried a campaign of whitening the populace, bringing in an amazing mix, not just Spanish peasants but also Catalans, French, Corsicans, Irish and Genoese. His discussion of the island as an American possession is damning of American assumptions and government. Then on to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. He doesn't seem to like the Dominicans much, or at least their government, and much of the section is about Haitian folks in the DR, which recently decided to deport Haitians--only partly done, but the 1930s massacres of Haitians in the DR is in the background. His sections about Haiti are the best I have ever read about the island, mixing recent and longer-term history with politics--he likes the Haitians, really likes them.That's much of the book. The remainder is the smaller islands, including the Caymans, Grenada, Barbuda, Montserrat and Antigua. He discusses the politics of the revolution in Grenada in some detail, and again US policy and actions come across as ill-informed. The next section is on the French Guadeloupe and Martinique, one of the most interesting parts of the book. Much of it amounts to an analysis of the impact of two writers, Frantz Fanon and Aimee Cesaire, which some readers may find tedious, although their influence on the left and on African intellectuals has been great (not so much influence in the English-speaking world). A chapter on Dominica likewise is largely a discussion of the life of Jean Rhys (who wrote "The Wide Sargasso Sea")--but it uses that discussion to consider Dominican history and culture.The book ends in Trinidad, a lively section, with carnival, music and complicated politics, perhaps the best I have read about the place.Aside from the weaknesses of no index, no illustrations and a lousy map, this is an exceptional book that I recommend highly.

Was amazed when I received this book. It was much larger than I expected. It is filled nearly 400 pages of high quality photos and information. It has the exact same quality as a school textbook build and paper wise. Very happy with this purchase. You very easily get your money's worth with this.

By far the best video game artbook I have seen. The thing smells amazing from all of the color ink used to produce it. Easily about half of the book is full page art printing, with many other pages featuring many different concepts for a particular element/character in the game. I am a big artbook aficionado and before this I would say the Witcher 3's artbook was the best, but the Fallout 4 artbook surpasses it with sheer content. If you are thinking about buying it, buy it now.

This book is HEAVY. I accidentally dropped it and tried to break the fall with my foot...ouch. The art is BEAUTIFUL! And there is a TON of it. One who is into Fallout could spend lots of time just ogling at the artwork. If you are a fan of the game or of the genre in general you cannot go wrong with this book.

This was an excellent art book, and I am extremely happy with the purchase. It's 365 pages of lushly detailed, beautifully printed concept art from Fallout 4. I really enjoyed both seeing the germination of things that eventually appeared in the game, as well as the things that were brainstormed for the game but never included.Three things in particular to note:First, the detail is excellent. I particularly enjoyed going over some of the pages with a magnifying glass to see all the little intricate details of things like costumes, weapons, and robots, and seeing details that could never be included in the game without ballooning the already massive file sizes to something impossible to load.Second, particularly in the World chapter, the book has a real Star Wars feel. In particular, the concept art for makeshift shelters made from the wreckage of prewar Fallout society is conceptually very similar to Mos Eisley construction from old ship parts. Some of the costume design and weapons seem similar, more so in the concept art than even in the game itself, between Fallout and Star Wars. That probably isn't entirely coincidental, considering that both Fallout and Star Wars take inspiration from some of the same sources, particularly their similarities in the Art Deco stylings of the movie Metropolis by Fritz Lang.Third, the personality of the artists come through in the descriptions. It is obvious from their descriptions despite knowledge that many of their detailed brainstorms and concept art wouldn't make it into the final game that they were having fun just making them. The artists give detailed descriptions about how they took inspiration from several sources without copying them outright. Also, they wanted to create a game with a homogenized art structure while also having room to go off the walls a little. Overall, their joy in their work is contagious, and it's as much a joy to read about their creation of the artwork as it is to look at the artwork itself.$20-$50 might seem steep to buy a book, but this is one book that is worth your money.

The Art of Fallout 4 is an amazing art book. It's over an inch thick, hard cover with high quality paper. The pages are almost card stock the paper is so thick, which is nice. Some art books have very thin paper and it feels like you're going to tear it, or it won't soak up the ink correctly. This one is done right.The book is most definitely an -art book-. There are a few blurbs here or there but the vast majority of the space is devoted to the art itself. Some movie/game art books want to retell the story. Which if you've spent the money on an art book of this nature you don't need the story retold. Nor are there lots of side tracks or stuff you don't want. It's page after page of beautiful concept art for the game. Covering everything from the costume design, to the setting, all the way down to the appliances in the houses, and everything between. Thousands of images of concept art, from matte paintings for setting of cities and the wastelands down to comic book covers.The quality of the art is stunning. All that it covers is amazing. The paper of the book is so good and stiff that it ended up hurting my finger after turning the pages on the way through! lol.Highly recommend this book. One of the best art books I own. Very much worth the money.

I obviously don't have a firm grasp of ordering books on my Kindle. I thought I would be receiving a hard copy book in the mail. The print is really hard to see on my Kindle. The "book" was on sale, about $11.00 so I thought sure, why not? A lot of work has gone into this book, the artwork is really good, I just wish I could read the print. It would make a really nice coffee table book if it were hardcopy. Not worth $50.00 but well worth $11.00. If you like Fallout 4 you will like this "book".

I have never seen such a bulky and thick artbook in my life and I've seen a lot. This has to be one of the best artbooks I have ever read, the ammount of art pieces and lots of cool little information about some of the things is great, but the sheer amount of the art, I cannot comprehend how amazon can sell this kind of art book so cheaply...even though on the back of the book it says it's priced at 49.99 US dollars, but I got it for 33 dollars including shipping, that's incredible if you ask me. I'm happy with my purchase for the price, but so you're aware - it's a small square book, like 4" by 4". Although it is small, there is quite a bit of detail, as it is printed on both sides of the page, but the 3D isn't much to write home about. The book is accordian style, so once it's out of it's holder/cover, it opens all the way. I won't get any of the other cities because of the size and lack of true pop-up "3D", but it has been fun to look at it and practice a French accent with my 4-year old.

Distinctly favored by an eleven-year-old who wants to visit Paris someday. Although she isn't ordinarily fond of books, the 3D aspect makes this one appealing. It's just the sort of thing that brings some fun to learning. Recommend!

Call of Cthulhu takes a game that has existed under a different rules system for some time, and adapts it to the d20 system (like Dungeons and Dragons). The d20 system is okay for just about anything, but is probably not as well suited to the subject matter (the cosmic horror stories of HP Lovecraft) as various other systems out there. That said, there are some really compelling reasons to check it out.For one, the non-rules elements in the book, the storytelling advice and the explanation of the Cthulhu Mythos, are worth the price of admission. There's some really interesting and clearly rendered thoughts in here that can affect any game you want to play.For another, the d20 system is an easier buy-in for many people who are familiar with D&D. Asking them to learn a new system is a big ask, but this game is one book and it works the way they expect an rpg to work. The rules are stripped down of many of the D&D elements and offer only two options for advancing your character (offense and defense); the rest is choosing skills. Magic is handled separately, and psychic powers through a minimal selection of feats. Sanity is ported from the older CoC game and includes a lot of interesting actual psychiatric information. This very simple and modular approach allows you to use what you want and change or add other things. So the game, even through the limitations of d20's linear advancement and oversimplified combat, can work pretty well.There are guidelines for adapting characters from the other CoC game, and from mixing material between CoC and D&D (or Pathfinder, if you swing that way). The book has exceptionally high production values; the cover will creep you out, and so will the book itself, where instead of being rendered in columns, text is presented as slanted opposing triangular structures that manage to be readable while creating a Lovecraftian notion of forbidden geometry. The writing and artwork are strong throughout. This game is long out of print, but still worth picking up in the best condition you can (and at the best price you can); it works.

This is, in my entire (brief) history of purchasing RPG's, my favorite book to date. That should tell you enough to BUY THIS BOOK, but I'll elaborate for the folks who don't want to sift through the other, 2000 word reviews.Firstly, the book itself is solid, good quality, well-written, exceptionally well-presented, and designed to be easy and fun to use.Secondly, the game is, supposing you can find people interested in its style of gaming (semi-serious horror roleplay,) an extremely fun, interesting and exciting game.Third, the book uses the most prolific RPG system around, Wizards of the Coast's D&D 3rd edition+ d20 system, which, while it has its flaws, is accessible and ubiquitous. Some folks have nits to pick with it, and their concerns may have grounds, but frankly, a game is a game is a game, and this one plays well with the system they present.Finally, this book has everything you need to play. Everything. The included adventures (two!) are top-notch, and full of juicy details and tidbits, much like the rest of the book. It has rules to cover almost any imaginable situation, and ideas a-plenty, including a recommended reading section. I simply cannot recommend it highly enough for any fan of role-playing and the d20 system, the horror genre or Lovecraft's writing.

This book is amazing! The character creation system is very flexible. The magic system is very unique. It has an excellent combat system and some cool gear to equip your characters with. And add a heavy dose of creepy crawlies, undead, and Old Ones to keep things interesting. I also like the appendices on conversions from the Chaosium and Dungeons and Dragons systems. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The only thing that could make it better is if they made an updated version using the 5th edition version of the d20 system.

I bought this because I just wanted for my collection.It is interesting, but trying to meld the D100 system with a D20 system is odd at best, which leaves each side wondering and wanting a little more.It was a great effort to meld the two and I applaud them for that, yet the casual fan will want to stick to the other systems and leave this one for people like me who just want it to collect it.

Helpful book, but I really wish they would've expanded on the items list for roleplaying purposes! I had to b.s. my way through corn and mason jar prices for one of my players who is playing a bootlegger in a 1920's campaign. 😑 Also, more artifacts/tomes! Had to buy a separate 1st edition c.o.c. book for these things.

WoTC version of CoC is a great gaming system for those who like a bit more grit than DnD and are familiar with d20's. This is the only hard-cover I could find and for the price I wouldn't call it a steal but it is a solid buy. Mine arrived in mint condition.

This book are a great resource for CoC keepers (or Lovecraft's readears). If you don't like D20 system, just don't use it! The old rivals are at it again, and neither Oujou nor Deimon will go down quietly. Both have individual and collective promises riding on the outcome of this match, and those who are seniors in their final year will not have another chance to fulfill those promises. Not to mention that the writers built up the Oujou/Deimon rivalry very early on, so you're expecting their final clash to be the climax of the series . . . and then it's NOT.Monta was really amazing in this volume. In this one, he's exhausted from doing his special move, the Devil Backfire, and when it becomes impossible for him to carry on, Hiruma's instructions are to fake it. If the other team realizes he can no longer catch, they'll exploit that. (Awesomely enough, Monta's rival, Sakuraba, evaluates him and believes based on his posture and determination that he is able to keep going.) I love that Monta's baseball hero, Honjou, is in the audience and that he DOES remember him from childhood, and that he catches him and carries him at one point--seriously like a dream come true for Monta, but he has bigger dreams now.Sena has really evolved into a proper ace, no longer afraid of getting clobbered by Shin and no longer easily trounced by the hard work required of him. Their training with masks and special agility has really paid off, especially for Sena, who has basically become a superman by this point. And as Shin, the unbeatable juggernaut, continues to bear down on him, you see that it's a pleasure for Shin to have something that challenges him again. Sena, in a beautifully symbolic gesture, pushes OFF of Shin to go a tiny bit faster during one play, and it's truly amazing. I love that at one point Shin happily acknowledges and accepts being a challenger instead of a champion. He's fair, and doesn't carry gross grudges. What a class act.And how could I not talk about Yukimitsu? This is an athlete who just isn't much of an athlete, but who joined the football team feeling like he wanted to do SOMETHING besides sitting in a room studying and exercising his big brain. Even tons of training has not helped him become an athlete on the level of the other starting Devilbats, but their team is so small that they do need him, and his determination is right there with the best of them--not to mention that desperation feeds into his motivation and Hiruma knows how to use that. He is able to make a small calculation and a small contribution that tilts possibilities slightly more toward Deimon's favor, and what's great is that Hiruma understands what he's doing. He's a great character. Just goes to show you that even in a sports manga, not all the heroic, important characters are amazing athletes.The pacing was frantic during this volume. We ended the last volume sure that the game was almost at an end, but we had a last-minute turn in Deimon's favor which Oujou then turned around AGAIN, leaving Deimon a second or so on the clock to gain points. It is frankly amazing how much mileage the creators of this manga got out of those fleeting few minutes.And after the game is over, there's an interesting follow-up with Maruko bringing the Deimon and Seibu aces to a secret meeting to push them into forfeiting, claiming that every quarterback facing Hakushu gets a disastrous injury. Now what will they do with this information? Way to keep the momentum going, writers!As usual, the cute in-betweens in this volume were hilarious and sometimes weirdly informative. This time we're taking fan questions and having characters teach you how to do certain moves. Monta's teaching on the Devil Backfire has him advising you to also use Devil Backfire moves to catch shrine offerings (which is a crime) and collect bananas. Ootawara's public nudity offenses are examined, along with a discussion of how to use the low squib kick (ever need to get dog poop off your shoe?), and Hiruma's Hornet's Next move is one he recommends using for cheating in board games and various other nefarious activities. And we have a fun graph of who in the cast can speak "Powerspeak," the grunting language made famous by Komusubi. What powerful characters can speak it? Well, it's no surprise that Ootawara, Banba, Shin, Hebii, and Tetsuma can. But I was a little surprised that they indicated Ikari is on the list, and I laughed when they put Cerberus on there. I was also surprised that the Hah brothers and Agon CAN'T, but I guess they tend to be a tad more articulate in a traditional sense (especially Agon).I wanna read the next one right away but I always take long breaks in between reading manga volumes so I guess I won't be doing that. :P
